From Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay to Ocho Rios, you can arrange an authorised airport taxi, pre-book a private transfer, use a shared shuttle, take Knutsford Express, connect through public transport, or hire a car. The road distance is about 100 kilometres, or 62 miles, and a normal driving estimate is about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. Published private-transfer prices range from US$70 to US$145 one way per vehicle, depending on the operator, passenger capacity and inclusions. Coach and public-transport fares are charged separately per passenger.
Your first choices are the exact accommodation address, passenger count, luggage, arrival time and whether you need direct hotel drop-off. Those details determine whether a private vehicle, office-to-office coach or connecting public transport fits the trip.
Choose the transport that matches your arrival
Authorised airport taxi
JUTA and JCAL operate from the shared authorised taxi desk just outside the Customs exit at Sangster International Airport. After collecting your luggage, go to the desk and ask for the total fare to your hotel, villa, apartment or street address in Ocho Rios.

The airport identifies JUTA and JCAL as its authorised taxi companies. Ask for the price in the quoted currency, whether it covers the whole vehicle or each passenger, and whether the fare is one way or return. Also ask about luggage, waiting time and any extra stop before leaving the airport.
The taxi desk suits passengers who prefer to arrange transport after landing. It can also suit local residents collecting relatives or friends, provided the arriving passenger knows the agreed meeting point. If you land hungry, here is where to eat near Sangster International Airport.

Pre-booked private transfer
A private transfer lets you arrange a vehicle before the flight and request direct drop-off at your accommodation. Published airport-transfer and tour operators serving this route include Sunny Tours Jamaica, Jamaica Exquisite Tours, Wayne Irie Taxi and Tours, and Corey's Jamaica Tours. The airport also publishes transfer and tour operators with desk numbers in the Ground Transportation Arrivals Hall.
After Customs clearance, customer-service representatives direct arriving passengers to the relevant hotel lounge or ground-transportation company. Use the meeting point named in your booking details. Give the operator your flight number, arrival date, scheduled landing time, passenger count and accommodation address.
Published examples include the following rates. They are individual operator prices, not an airport-set tariff or a general market average.
Prices in this table remain in US dollars because that is how the operators publish them. Do not treat one operator’s passenger limit, luggage allowance or extra-person charge as applying to another operator.
Some companies publish airport meet-and-greet, flight monitoring, payment methods and luggage terms. Read the specific booking terms for the operator you choose. If you are travelling to a villa or apartment, send the full address and ask whether the vehicle can reach the property entrance.
Shared shuttle
Private transport companies advertise shuttle and shared-transfer products between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. These services vary in departure point, schedule, passenger capacity, waiting time, hotel drop-off and price.
Ask whether the product is shared or private, whether it begins at Sangster International Airport or another Montego Bay location, and whether the price is per person or per vehicle. Also ask about the number of stops and the latest arrival time accepted for your flight.
A shared shuttle can suit a solo traveller or couple who prefer a lower per-person price and can allow time for other passengers. A family with children, large luggage or a hotel away from central Ocho Rios may find a direct private vehicle easier to arrange.
Knutsford Express
Knutsford Express provides scheduled intercity coach service from its Montego Bay Airport location towards Ocho Rios. The service is office-to-office, so you normally travel to the Ocho Rios or Drax Hall location and arrange a separate taxi for the final part to your accommodation.

Knutsford Express lists these relevant locations:
- Montego Bay Airport: Donald Sangster International Airport.
- Montego Bay: 10 Harbour Circle, near Pier 1.
- Falmouth: Florence Hall Business Centre, Rock.
- Ocho Rios: Shop 18, Ocean Village Shopping Center.
- Drax Hall: Lot 12 Drax Hall Estates, Drax Hall, St. Ann.
- RIU Hotel Ocho Rios: listed as a separate Knutsford location.
The Montego Bay Airport passenger office is listed as open daily from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Ocho Rios passenger office is listed as open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and closed Sunday. The booking system provides the departure choices for your selected date.
Knutsford lists fares as one way and charges per passenger. The current Montego Bay Airport to Ocho Rios fare comes through the booking process for the chosen date and passenger type. The service includes one checked bag up to 50 pounds plus a carry-on, with extra luggage potentially charged separately.
Use Knutsford Express in Jamaica: Routes, Schedules, Fares and Booking when you need office locations and booking details. For the final connection, ask for a taxi from the Ocho Rios or Drax Hall stop to your accommodation.
JUTC, route taxis and rural stage buses
JUTC is Jamaica’s public bus operator. Rural Express services were announced for Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, with an introductory fare of J$2,000 for selected rural routes in the August 11, 2025 announcement. Before relying on this option, ask JUTC for the departure point, current timetable, route and fare for your travel date.
A direct Sangster International Airport to Ocho Rios public-bus trip is not the same as the Knutsford Express service. Public transport normally involves several separate legs:
- Airport to a Montego Bay public-transport stage.
- Montego Bay to Falmouth or another north-coast stage.
- Falmouth or Discovery Bay towards Runaway Bay and Ocho Rios.
- A local taxi or route taxi from the final stage to your accommodation.
Route taxis carry passengers paying separate fares along designated routes. They stop to pick up and set down passengers, and the Transport Authority’s licensing description limits a route to no more than 30 kilometres. For that reason, do not assume that a single route taxi runs directly from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios.
The Transport Authority publishes separate fares for routes such as Montego Bay to Airport and local Falmouth-area services. Each leg has its own fare, and fare tables can change. Ask about the next stage and the fare before boarding.
Travellers using this option need time for luggage, transfers and the final local connection. It can suit residents familiar with the stages and routes. Visitors with a late arrival, several suitcases or a hotel outside a town centre may prefer a pre-arranged vehicle.
The JUTC Buses in Jamaica: Routes, Fares and the Montego Bay Service page has more background on public bus options. You can also read How to Get Around Jamaica Without a Car for connections beyond this route.
Hire car
Car-rental companies operate in the Ground Transportation and Arrivals Hall after Customs. A hire car can suit you if Ocho Rios is one stop on a wider trip that includes other parishes, beaches, towns or inland attractions.
Ask the rental company for the full rate for your vehicle, rental period, insurance, deposit, fuel policy, additional driver, child seat and airport charges. You will also need the exact pickup instructions and return location.
The drive follows the A1 North Coast Highway eastward through the Montego Bay area, Falmouth, Discovery Bay, Runaway Bay and Ocho Rios. Read Driving in Jamaica as a Visitor: Licences, Roads and Rules before choosing a hire car.
Route, distance and time
The road distance from Sangster International Airport to Ocho Rios is approximately 100 kilometres, or 62 miles. A practical driving estimate is about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. If you are leaving from the city rather than the airport, see Montego Bay to Ocho Rios by coach, taxi or drive.

Traffic in Montego Bay, Falmouth, Discovery Bay, Runaway Bay and Ocho Rios can change the timing. Roadworks, flooding, weather, stops, airport processing, the exact hotel address and a different road connection can also affect the arrival time.
Private operators may publish shorter estimates for their own service. Island Gully Transfer publishes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. That is the operator’s estimate for its transfer service, not a timetable or a universal travel time.
Accommodation in Runaway Bay or Discovery Bay may be reached before central Ocho Rios. Send the exact address when arranging the vehicle so the operator can price the correct destination. If you break the journey in Runaway Bay, see where to eat in Runaway Bay. The Montego Bay Airport to Runaway Bay transfer options cover a stay that ends before Ocho Rios.
For more detail on the destination end, see Getting Around Ocho Rios, Jamaica: Taxis, Route Taxis and Walking.
Airport meeting points
Pre-booked passengers should follow the Ground Transportation Arrivals Hall process after Customs. The airport directs arriving passengers to the relevant hotel lounge or ground-transportation company, and its operator list includes desk numbers.
The authorised taxi desk is just outside the Customs exit. Car-rental companies are in the Ground Transportation and Arrivals Hall after Customs.
Your booking details should name the desk, lounge or meeting point, along with the greeter’s name or phone number. If the booking uses a general airport description, ask the operator for the exact meeting location before you fly.
What to arrange before paying
Send the operator or transport desk:
- Flight number, arrival date and scheduled landing time.
- Passenger count, including children.
- Number, dimensions and weight of each luggage item.
- Exact hotel, villa, apartment or street address.
- Total price and currency.
- Whether the fare is per vehicle or per person.
- One-way or return direction.
- Waiting time if the flight arrives late.
- Airport meeting point and greeter name or phone number.
- Payment method, deposit, cancellation terms and balance due.
- Child-seat availability and charge.
- Extra stops, detours, hotel access fees, tolls, parking and luggage charges.
Families and groups should ask for the vehicle’s actual passenger and luggage capacity. A rate for 1 to 3 or 1 to 4 passengers may have a separate charge for each additional passenger.
For a child seat, ask: “Is an infant carrier or child seat available, what age or weight range does it cover, what is the charge, and will it be installed before pickup?”
For wheelchair access, ask: “Does the vehicle have a lift or ramp, what are the maximum wheelchair dimensions and weight, is there room for a folded chair, can the vehicle reach the hotel entrance, and can I remain seated in the wheelchair during travel?”
Confirm with the operator before you travel that the vehicle, meeting point and total price match the details you supplied.

The Prime Minister’s Office reported that all airports reopened within 48 hours of the storm. On October 31, 2025, the National Works Agency reported that 93 affected road corridors had reopened to one lane or been completely cleared.
The normal route through Montego Bay, Falmouth, Runaway Bay and Ocho Rios is operating, while weather, flooding, roadworks and service changes can affect a particular date. Check the airport, airline, National Works Agency and transport operator status close to departure.
Common questions
Is there a shuttle from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios?
Yes. Private companies advertise shared and shuttle-style products, but prices, schedules, capacity, pickup points and hotel drop-off differ by operator. Knutsford Express is a scheduled coach alternative, with office-to-office service rather than hotel drop-off.
How much is a taxi from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios?
MBJ identifies JUTA and JCAL as the authorised airport taxi companies. Ask the taxi desk for the total price in the quoted currency, including the vehicle basis, destination and luggage terms.
Published private-transfer prices include US$70 one way per vehicle from Wayne Irie Taxi and Tours for 1 to 4 people, US$85 from Jamaica Exquisite Tours, and US$100 from Sunny Tours Jamaica. These are operator-published transfer prices, not the airport taxi fare.
How long is the ride from Montego Bay Airport to Ocho Rios?
Allow about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours by road for the roughly 100-kilometre route. A private operator may publish a shorter estimate, such as Island Gully Transfer’s approximately 1 hour 15 minutes, but actual timing depends on traffic, stops, weather and the final address.
Is there a bus service from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios?
Knutsford Express provides scheduled coach service from Montego Bay Airport and Montego Bay to Ocho Rios-area offices. JUTC has announced Rural Express services for Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, while route taxis and rural stage buses require separate connections and fares.
Is there Uber in Ocho Rios?
Uber lists Ocho Rios as an operating city, and riders can request available products through the app. Enter your destination in the app to see current vehicle availability and the fare estimate for your location. Before you get in, check for red PPV plates and the driver's Transport Authority badge, which the Authority requires on any vehicle carrying paying passengers.
What airport should I fly into for Ocho Rios?
Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay has extensive international service and a North Coast Highway connection to Ocho Rios. Ian Fleming International Airport is closer to many Ocho Rios addresses, but you need to compare flight availability, connections, baggage rules and the final ground-transfer cost.
Are airport transfers cheaper than taxis?
There is no single answer. A private transfer can cost less per person for a group because the published price is per vehicle, while a coach or public transport can cost less for one passenger who accepts fixed stops and a separate final taxi.
Compare a taxi-desk quote with a dated private-transfer quote using the same destination, passenger count, direction, luggage and extras. Keep vehicle prices, per-person coach fares and route-taxi fares separate.
