You can travel from Kingston to Treasure Beach by staged route taxis, a JUTC Rural Express or Knutsford Express connection, a private transfer, or a hire car. Plan for about 3.5 to 4.5 hours by private vehicle over roughly 130 to 140 km, while public transport takes longer because you change in places such as Mandeville, Santa Cruz, Junction or Southfield. Prices range from per-passenger route-taxi fares in Jamaican dollars to private-transfer rates in US dollars per vehicle or passenger group.
The right choice depends on your budget, bags, arrival time, children, group size and whether you need to reach a specific hotel, villa, guesthouse or event venue. Your route starts in Kingston, crosses through central Jamaica, and ends on the south coast in St. Elizabeth.
Choose the service that fits your trip
A staged public trip suits you if keeping the fare low matters more than having a fixed arrival time. A scheduled coach gives you fewer changes than separate route taxis, while a private transfer takes you from Kingston or Norman Manley International Airport to your accommodation. A hire car gives you more freedom after arrival, especially if you plan to visit other parts of Treasure Beach and the wider south coast.

You can also compare operators serving the route through the Kingston transport operator directory, the Clarendon transport operator directory, the Manchester transport operator directory and the St. Elizabeth transport operator directory.
Route taxis and public buses in stages
The usual public-transport pattern is Kingston to Mandeville, then Mandeville to Santa Cruz or Junction, followed by a St. Elizabeth route taxi toward Southfield, Black River or Treasure Beach. Operators and departure points vary by stage, so ask at the relevant transport centre for the next vehicle and the final place it serves.
Since July 1, 2026, a route taxi charges each passenger a J$132 base plus J$8.64 per kilometre, one way, with route fares rounded, and a rural stage carriage (rural bus) charges a J$53 base plus J$7.02 per kilometre. Each stage is priced separately, so tell the driver your destination and ask for the fare before boarding. For current rates across the island, see Jamaica taxi fares in 2026.
If you use a Santa Cruz to Southfield vehicle, arrange the final connection from Southfield to the exact accommodation.
Treasure Beach has several communities and roads rather than one single terminal. Tell the driver the name of your hotel, villa, guesthouse or event location, and ask if the vehicle stops there or only at a town stage. Carry cash in Jamaican dollars for local stages, and ask about the final departure time before leaving Mandeville, Santa Cruz, Junction or Black River.
JUTC Rural Express to Mandeville
The JUTC Rural Express launch announcement dated October 1, 2025 listed Mandeville among its long-haul routes and gave an introductory fare of J$2,000 per passenger per trip. Ask JUTC for the current price.
If a current Kingston to Mandeville departure suits your date, you can continue into St. Elizabeth by local taxi or route taxi. Ask JUTC for the departure time, boarding point and luggage arrangements, then plan the Mandeville connection separately.
The JUTC service may suit a Kingston resident who wants a public bus for the first long section and is comfortable arranging another vehicle after Mandeville. Leave enough time between services because the final route into Treasure Beach has its own departure pattern.
Knutsford Express to Mandeville
Knutsford Express operates scheduled intercity coaches with passenger terminals in Kingston and Mandeville. A practical plan is to take the coach to Mandeville, then continue by route taxi or local taxi through Santa Cruz, Junction or Southfield.
Knutsford’s schedule page uses separate bookings for connecting buses and describes connection times as approximate. Put the travel date into the Knutsford Express schedule and check the current fare before paying. Adult, child, senior and student prices may differ.
Knutsford also lists Gutters as a passenger location. If a Kingston to Gutters connection is available for your date, arrange the onward St. Elizabeth transport before you travel. Ask where you will leave the coach, where the local vehicle departs, how much luggage can be carried and whether the final vehicle reaches your accommodation.
For a scheduled-coach option, read the related information on Kingston to Mandeville by coach, bus and route taxi and Knutsford Express routes, schedules, fares and booking.
Private transfer from Kingston or Norman Manley International Airport
A private transfer can take you from a Kingston hotel, central Kingston or Norman Manley International Airport directly to your accommodation in Treasure Beach. This is useful when you have several bags, children, mobility equipment, a late arrival, or a wedding or festival check-in time to meet.

Treasure Tours, based in Treasure Beach, publishes Kingston transfer rates by group size, with transportation only, 24-hour advance notice recommended and car seats available to rent. Ask it for a written total in US dollars for your group, one way or return.
As listed in October 2026, Jamaica Villa Transportation prices Kingston airport to Treasure Beach Villas at US$350 one way for 1 to 6 people, or US$700 round trip for the same group. Extra-person charges are listed separately. The estimated journey is 4 hours 30 minutes.
For any private transfer, give the operator your flight number and arrival time if you are flying into Kingston. Set out the passenger count and ages, bags, child-seat needs, exact address, meeting point, payment terms, waiting time for a delayed flight, tolls, extra stops and whether the fare is per vehicle or per person.
A private quote can look simple until luggage, waiting, tolls or an extra stop changes the amount. Ask for a written total in the quoted currency and have the driver identification method and airport meeting point written down. For more help comparing airport services, see Airport Transfer or Taxi in Jamaica: Which One Fits Your Trip.
Hire car from Kingston
A hire car gives you control over departure time and your movements after reaching Treasure Beach. Rental companies set their own prices, vehicle availability, minimum-age rules, licence requirements, insurance conditions, deposits, fuel terms and mileage limits.
The road normally runs west from Kingston toward Spanish Town and May Pen, then continues through Mandeville and either Santa Cruz or Junction. From there, you follow the St. Elizabeth roads through Southfield or another local connection toward Treasure Beach.
A private driver may use the tolled Highway 2000 approach from Kingston toward May Pen or Williamsfield before continuing on non-tolled roads. The Kingston to Treasure Beach route does not require the North-South Highway. If your driver uses Highway 2000, ask whether the applicable toll is included in the quoted price.
For a visitor hiring a car, read Driving in Jamaica as a Visitor: Licences, Roads and Rules and Renting a Car in Jamaica: Requirements, Costs and Airport Pickup.
Distance, roads and time
A practical planning figure is approximately 130 to 140 km by road. The exact distance changes with your Kingston starting point, the route through May Pen and Mandeville, and the address in Treasure Beach.
The published estimates differ:
For planning, allow about 3.5 to 4.5 hours by private vehicle. Traffic, roadworks, weather, stops and the final rural road can add time. For a food stop on the way, see where to eat in Jamaica on a road trip. A festival arrival needs extra space between your expected arrival and check-in or event opening, especially if you are travelling after landing at Norman Manley International Airport.
Getting the last stretch into Treasure Beach
If your coach or bus reaches Mandeville, Santa Cruz, Junction or Black River, the final connection needs its own plan.

From Junction, a route taxi runs toward Treasure Beach, and a Junction to Southfield route taxi lets you arrange a local vehicle onward to your accommodation. From Santa Cruz, Southfield is the usual connecting point, and from Black River a route taxi serves Treasure Beach. Ask for the fare for your leg before you get in.
Before starting the long section from Kingston, ask about the last local departure, the departure point, available luggage space, cash payment, and the exact place where the vehicle ends. If you arrive in Southfield or another town stage, ask the accommodation for directions to the final local pickup point. Once you arrive, here is where to eat in Treasure Beach.
Families, groups and mobility needs
Families need more than the number of passenger seats. Ask whether every passenger has a usable seat after luggage is loaded, whether a child seat or booster is available, what type it is, its age or weight limit, and whether it is included or rented separately.
Treasure Tours lists car-seat rental availability. If you are travelling with children, include each child’s age and size in the quotation request.
Groups should ask for the vehicle class, maximum passengers, luggage capacity, price per vehicle or per passenger, and whether a second vehicle is needed. If everyone is staying at one address, state that address when requesting the price.
Travellers with mobility needs can ask:
- Can the wheelchair remain unfolded during travel?
- Is the vehicle step-free, or will you transfer into a seat?
- Is there a ramp or lift?
- What are the doorway and luggage-compartment dimensions?
- Can the vehicle carry a powered wheelchair?
- Can the driver assist with boarding?
- Can the vehicle reach the exact accommodation road?
- Is there an accessibility supplement?
Jamaica Wheelchair Taxi advertises wheelchair-accessible vehicles for airport transfers and excursions. Ask for the vehicle type, ramp or lift details, wheelchair dimensions, boarding method, availability and total price for Kingston to Treasure Beach.
What to settle before departure
Write these details on the ticket, receipt, booking message or quotation:
- Flight number and arrival time when starting at Norman Manley International Airport.
- Passenger count and ages.
- Number, size and type of bags.
- Child seats or booster seats.
- Exact hotel, villa, guesthouse or street address.
- Total price and currency.
- Per-vehicle or per-passenger pricing.
- One-way or return service.
- Waiting time if a flight is delayed.
- Meeting point and driver identification method.
- Payment method, deposit, cancellation terms and balance due.
- Tolls, luggage, extra stops and detours.
- Direct accommodation drop-off or town-stage drop-off.
If you are using public transport, settle the departure point and last connection in person at each stage. If you are using a coach, check the ticket date, terminal and luggage rules. If you are driving, check the rental agreement before collecting the vehicle.
Hurricane Melissa and current route status
As of October 15, 2026, Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston has resumed full operations. The December 10, 2025 government briefing said the airport fully resumed operations by October 30, 2025 after its temporary closure during Hurricane Melissa.

Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay also resumed service after its October 26, 2025 closure. Relief flights resumed October 30, and limited commercial flights resumed November 1. The Jamaica Tourist Board’s current travel-alert information states that Sangster International Airport, Norman Manley International Airport and Ian Fleming International Airport have full operations restored.
The National Works Agency reported that the Kingston to Black River corridor had reopened to at least single-lane access on October 31, 2025. Its December 15, 2025 road-status table showed affected Kingston and Manchester roads open on two lanes, with 25 of 27 affected St. Elizabeth roads open on two lanes and two still blocked at that date. Jamaica Information Service later reported restored access between Mandeville and Black River and along other key transport corridors.
These dated updates describe the wider network. Individual route-taxi stages, JUTC rural departures, Knutsford connections, accommodation roads and event venues can have separate operating conditions. Ask the accommodation or event organiser about the final access road, and confirm the transport departure directly for your travel date.
