Which airport is closest to Treasure Beach?
Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is the closer international airport by road for most trips to Treasure Beach. A south-coast transfer operator estimates the distance at approximately 130 km, or 81 miles, with a drive of about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes. AirLink Express gives an estimate of approximately 2 hours 25 minutes to Treasure Beach.

Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) in Kingston has a route-planner road estimate of approximately 147 km, with an estimated driving time of about 2 hours 24 minutes. The final distance depends on your accommodation, the road selected, traffic, stops, weather and road conditions.
For most international visitors, Montego Bay gives you the shorter road transfer. Kingston can still make sense when the flight schedule, fare or onward plans suit you better.
Ways to travel from Montego Bay Airport to Treasure Beach
Your main choices are an airport taxi, private transfer, rental car, coach connection or route taxis. Each option works differently for price, waiting time, luggage and flexibility.
Airport taxi from the authorised taxi desk
Sangster International Airport lists JUTA and JCAL as the two airport taxi companies operating at the airport. You arrange an airport taxi at the authorised taxi desk after you collect your luggage and leave the arrivals area. If you land hungry, here is where to eat near Sangster International Airport.
Ask the taxi desk for the complete fare to your exact Treasure Beach accommodation before you leave the airport. Give the number of passengers, the amount of luggage and the destination address. Ask whether the quote is for the vehicle or each passenger, and whether it includes luggage, stops, tolls and waiting time.
An airport taxi can suit you if you want to arrange transport after landing instead of sending your flight details to a private transfer company in advance. The total fare depends on the vehicle, direction, passenger count and agreed inclusions.
For more detail on the difference between these services, read Airport Transfer or Taxi in Jamaica: Which One Fits Your Trip.
Pre-booked private airport transfer
A private transfer lets you send the operator your flight number, arrival date, arrival time and Treasure Beach address before you travel. Operators publishing Treasure Beach service include Barrett Adventures, Kenroy’s Jamaican Tours, Liberty Tours Jamaica and Happy Tours Jamaica, along with other transfer operators listed by MBJ.
Published prices vary by operator and service:
Treat the Barrett Adventures and Kenroy’s prices as published figures to discuss directly with the operator before payment. Liberty Tours Jamaica gives a price range and a passenger condition, so request the exact total for your group, direction and address.
A private transfer company can collect you at the arrivals terminal and take you directly to Treasure Beach in St. Elizabeth. You can also find operators near the airport through the St. James transport operators page. Give the operator the exact accommodation name because Treasure Beach covers several communities and final-mile roads.
Hire car collected at Sangster International Airport
A rental car gives you control over stops and onward travel after you reach the south coast. MBJ lists Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Island Car Rentals, National, Payless, Sixt and Thrifty.
The rental total depends on the travel date, vehicle, rental length, insurance, fuel, deposit and selected terms. Request the full price in the quoted currency and ask what is included before paying. Also provide the number of passengers and luggage so the vehicle has enough seating and storage.
A hire car may suit you if you plan to travel around St. Elizabeth after arriving, or if you need a vehicle for several days. Read Driving in Jamaica as a Visitor: Licences, Roads and Rules before collecting the car.
Knutsford Express, then a taxi or route taxi
Knutsford Express lists passenger locations at Montego Bay Airport, Savanna La Mar and Luana. You can arrange the coach for a listed stop and then arrange a separate taxi or route taxi for the onward trip to Treasure Beach.

This option requires coordination between the coach arrival and your onward ride. Get the departure time, arrival point, fare and luggage terms from Knutsford Express, then arrange the second vehicle separately. The final connection may be from Savanna-la-Mar, Luana or another available stop, depending on the timetable and your accommodation.
A coach and taxi combination can reduce the amount of private driving you pay for, but it adds a transfer point and a second fare. Read Knutsford Express in Jamaica: Routes, Schedules, Fares and Booking for the wider service details.
Route taxis with connections
Route taxis are public passenger vehicles that carry passengers paying separate fares along designated routes. The Transport Authority says route taxis may stop to pick up and drop off passengers along the route. They must display route information, red PPV plates, a Transport Authority identification card and other required markings.
There is no single direct route taxi from the airport desk to every Treasure Beach address. A practical western connection is:
- Montego Bay to Savanna-la-Mar.
- Savanna-la-Mar to Black River.
- Black River to Treasure Beach.
A practical inland connection is to Santa Cruz or Junction, followed by a route taxi toward Treasure Beach. The Transport Authority’s route listing includes Black River to Treasure Beach, Treasure Beach to Junction, Black River to Savanna La Mar, Black River to Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz to Junction.
The western route passes through Westmoreland, where the Westmoreland transport operators can help with the Savanna-la-Mar leg, before continuing through St. Elizabeth. The inland option may pass through Manchester or St. Elizabeth depending on the connection selected.
From July 1, 2026, the regulated route-taxi rate is J$132 base fare plus J$8.64 per kilometre, per passenger, one way. Route-specific fares are rounded, so ask the driver for the fare on your leg before boarding. The Jamaica taxi fares in 2026 guide has the full rates.
Route-taxi fares are separate for each leg and are not a direct airport-transfer price. Ask each driver for the destination, fare and luggage arrangement before boarding.
Route taxis take longer than a private vehicle because you may wait for passengers, change vehicles, load luggage and stop along the route. An older route-taxi description estimated approximately 2.5 hours from Montego Bay to Treasure Beach, so treat that as a rough guide and allow extra time.
Which roads connect Montego Bay and Treasure Beach?
The main western road option runs from Montego Bay toward Savanna-la-Mar (see where to eat in Savanna-la-Mar for a stop on the way), then east through the south-western corridor toward Black River and south toward Treasure Beach. The road network includes the A2 corridor and connecting roads toward Savanna-la-Mar and Black River.

A published road description identifies the B8 as connecting the A2 near Ferris Cross with the Montego Bay area through Whithorn, Shettlewood and Montpelier. This route can form part of the western connection between the Montego Bay area and the south coast.
A second option runs inland from Montego Bay through Montpelier, Maggotty, Santa Cruz or Junction, then south toward Treasure Beach. Route descriptions identify the B6 corridor through Maggotty and YS toward the interior, while the A2 connects Mandeville, Santa Cruz and Black River.
For a private vehicle, allow about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes by the western route. The inland route may take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours or more. These are road estimates, not fixed times.

Kenroy’s lists prices for 1 to 2 persons, additional charges for extra passengers, a regular service with possible shared waiting and a private service without shared waiting. Barrett Adventures lists a private air-conditioned vehicle for 1 to 4 persons and additional pricing above four. Liberty Tours Jamaica says its listed booking cost applies to 1 to 4 persons and increases for additional passengers.
Families and groups
Arrange the vehicle size and luggage capacity before paying. Ask for the vehicle’s seating capacity, the number of bags it can carry, whether luggage uses passenger seats, and whether the price changes for extra passengers.
If you need a child seat, ask whether one is available for the child’s age, weight and size, and whether it is fitted in the vehicle before airport pickup. Ask each operator for the child-seat charge in writing.
Travellers with mobility needs
Describe the mobility aid and boarding needs in clear terms. Ask whether the vehicle can carry a wheelchair, whether the wheelchair folds, whether you can transfer into a passenger seat, whether a lift or ramp is available and whether the accommodation has a suitable drop-off point.
Ask the operator to identify the vehicle type and confirm that it can carry both the passenger and the mobility aid. The exact vehicle arrangement may affect the fare and the number of passengers who can travel together.
