Kingston Airport to New Kingston, Jamaica: Taxis, Buses and Fares

Kingston's skyline backed by green mountains in clear morning light

Norman Manley International Airport to New Kingston is approximately 19 km, with a practical driving estimate of about 30 to 45 minutes via Palisadoes Road. You can arrange an airport taxi, a private transfer, a hotel shuttle, JUTC Route 98, a route taxi connection, a hire car or an app-based ride. Published prices range from US$10 or J$1,300 for a scheduled Knutsford Connect service to private-transfer prices such as US$80 one way for 1 to 4 people, but each fare has its own currency, unit and conditions.

Your choice depends on your arrival time, luggage, passenger count, mobility needs and the exact New Kingston hotel or office. Allow extra time during peak traffic, heavy rain, road works or an incident on the Palisadoes corridor.

How far is Norman Manley International Airport from New Kingston?

Norman Manley International Airport is on the Palisadoes peninsula, approximately 19 km from central Kingston. The Airports Authority of Jamaica describes the airport as approximately 20 minutes from Kingston’s business centre.

For New Kingston hotels, about 30 to 45 minutes is a practical driving estimate. That is not a timetable. The final time can change with traffic, airport processing, weather and road conditions. Palisadoes Road is the principal road connection between the airport and Kingston, so a delay on that corridor can affect the whole trip.

Ways to travel from Kingston Airport to New Kingston

Airport taxi

Airport taxis are operated by public passenger vehicle operators regulated by the Transport Authority. At Norman Manley International Airport, you can use the airport’s customer-service facilities to ask about the current taxi arrangement and the total fare to your hotel. If your hotel is on the north coast, see Kingston Airport to Ocho Rios transfers, coaches and travel time.

If you land hungry, here is where to eat near Kingston’s Norman Manley Airport. Ask for the fare in the currency you will pay, whether it covers the whole vehicle or each passenger, and whether airport fees, parking, tolls or luggage charges apply. Give the exact hotel name and street address because New Kingston covers several hotels, offices and residential streets.

A taxi may suit you if you want to arrange transport after landing, have a normal amount of luggage and prefer a direct trip to the hotel. If you are arriving late, travelling with children or carrying several large bags, arrange the vehicle details before departure.

For more local options, see Getting Around Kingston, Jamaica: JUTC Buses, Route Taxis and Taxis.

Pre-booked private transfer

A private transfer takes you from the airport to your hotel without the regular stops of public transport. Private airport-transfer companies and contract-carriage operators publish different prices and inclusions, so compare the complete quote for your passengers, bags and arrival date.

Jamaica Getaway Travels lists NMIA to New Kingston at US$80 one way for 1 to 4 persons, or US$160 round trip. Each additional person is listed at US$15 one way or US$30 round trip. The service includes arrival assistance, flight tracking and a vehicle transfer to the hotel. Its page gives an approximate 35-minute trip time.

Aurum Transfers lists New Kingston from US$110 per ride on its airport page, with an approximate time of 45 minutes. A separate Aurum route page lists US$95 and a 30-minute estimate. Its published inclusions include meet-and-greet service, flight tracking, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi. Ask for the exact current quote before payment.

E&J Rentals lists NMIA to New Kingston from US$45 and an approximate 30-minute time. Its page refers to flight monitoring, meet-and-greet service and fixed rates. Ask how many passengers and bags the quoted vehicle carries and whether the price is per vehicle.

Travelr Taxi & Tours lists NMIA to Kingston at J$3,000 one way in either direction. Ask whether that price covers your particular New Kingston hotel, the number of passengers travelling and your luggage.

All prices below were published on the operators’ own pages in October 2026.

E&J Rentals From US$45 Flight monitoring, meet-and-greet and fixed rates listed; ask about capacity and unit
Travelr Taxi & Tours J$3,000 one way NMIA to Kingston; ask about the exact New Kingston hotel and luggage terms

These are separate operator prices, not one standard fare. Published prices and availability can change, so ask for the total in writing for your date.

Hotel shuttle

Some New Kingston hotels arrange airport shuttles themselves or use a contracted transport provider. Ask your hotel whether it runs a shuttle from Norman Manley International Airport, how often it departs, where you meet it and whether the charge is added to your room or paid directly.

Give the hotel your flight number, arrival date, passenger count and bag count. Ask whether the shuttle is private or shared, whether it waits for delayed flights and whether it drops at the hotel entrance.

JUTC Route 98

Jamaica Urban Transit Company Route 98 is the relevant public bus route. Its published route name is “Port Royal/Airport - City.” It serves City, Windward Road and Mountain View Avenue, Harbour View, Caribbean Maritime University, Norman Manley Airport and Port Royal.

Route 98 ends at City, so you may need another bus or taxi to reach your hotel.

The timetable effective April 1, 2026 lists weekday and Saturday services from Norman Manley Airport. Weekday airport departures appear at intervals of roughly 15 to 40 minutes, while Saturday intervals vary at roughly 25 to 40 minutes. These are scheduled departure times, not a promise of actual running time. Use the JUTC Route 98 timetable for the departure details applying to your date.

Route 98 ends at City, not at every New Kingston hotel. From City, you may need another bus, a route taxi, a taxi or a walk to your final address.

JUTC’s fare notices show different SmartFare and cash prices across routes, so ask JUTC for the current Route 98 fare and payment method before boarding. JUTC describes SmartFare as its cashless payment system.

Route 99 serves Harbour View and City. For an airport trip, use Route 98 information because Route 99 is not the airport service.

Knutsford Connect is a separate scheduled connection, not the same service as JUTC. It lists NMIA departures at 9:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:10 pm, 4:10 pm and 6:30 pm, with the 6:30 pm departure listed Monday to Saturday. The operator lists NMIA to New Kingston at US$10 or J$1,300 as of October 2026. Ask whether that fare is per passenger or per vehicle and what luggage terms apply.

For wider bus information, see JUTC Buses in Jamaica: Routes, Fares and the Montego Bay Service.

Route taxi

The Transport Authority lists a Harbour View to Port Royal route taxi via Airport. This is a public route service rather than a pre-booked hotel-to-airport transfer.

A route taxi can work for passengers travelling light who are comfortable making a connection toward New Kingston. It may require a transfer near City or another Kingston stop, followed by a second taxi or bus. Ask the driver about the route, fare and drop-off point before entering, and keep your hotel address available.

Hire car

Rental-car companies serve Norman Manley International Airport. The airport’s passenger services information provides the starting point for current rental counters and pickup arrangements.

A hire car may suit you if you have several Kingston stops, need transport for more than one day or are continuing outside Kingston. Before collecting the car, settle the deposit, insurance terms, fuel policy, passenger capacity, luggage space and return location.

Read Driving in Jamaica as a Visitor: Licences, Roads and Rules before choosing to drive.

Uber and app-based rides

Uber’s Kingston page states that Uber operates in Kingston and includes airport trips. The app can show an estimate for the selected ride and may display vehicle categories such as UberXL.

Airport pickup instructions can differ from an ordinary city pickup. Follow the app’s meeting point, identify the vehicle and driver shown in the app, and ask how airport access applies to that ride. Transport Authority material states that vehicles carrying passengers for payment require the appropriate road licence and driver badge.

Compare the app estimate with a private-transfer quote for the same passengers, bags, hotel and arrival time. Check waiting charges, airport parking, tolls, child seats and extra stops.

What families and groups should arrange

Count bags as carefully as passengers. A vehicle with enough seats may not have enough space for large suitcases, folding strollers or mobility equipment.

Luggage and a folded stroller beside a car
Count bags as carefully as passengers, because strollers and mobility equipment take space.

Jamaica Getaway Travels publishes pricing for 1 to 4 persons and charges for additional people. Larger groups require a separate arrangement. Aurum Transfers describes larger vehicle categories, but the vehicle assigned depends on the booking.

For a child, ask these exact questions:

  • Is an infant seat, convertible seat or booster available?
  • Is it fitted before pickup?
  • What is the separate cost?
  • Can the vehicle carry the child seat and all bags?

If you use a wheelchair or mobility aid, ask whether the vehicle has a ramp or lift, the door width, the available luggage space and whether you can remain in your wheelchair during the trip. Ask whether the driver can assist from the terminal to baggage claim and from the vehicle to the hotel entrance.

Give the operator your flight number, passenger count, bag sizes, exact hotel address and any mobility details. Ask for the meeting point, driver identification, payment method, deposit and cancellation terms. Include waiting time for a delayed flight, flight tracking, additional stops, tolls, parking, airport fees and taxes in the price discussion.

Confirm with the operator before you travel, especially when your group needs a child seat, a wheelchair-accessible vehicle or extra luggage space.

Airport and road status after Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa caused temporary airport closures and road disruption in October 2025. Norman Manley International Airport closed at 8:00 pm on October 25, reopened for relief flights on October 29 and was scheduled to resume commercial flights at 7:00 am on October 30.

On October 31, 2025, the National Works Agency reported about 195 impassable road corridors island-wide after landslides, fallen trees, flooding and surface damage. As of October 2026, use your airline for flight information, NMIA for airport operating status, and JUTC or the relevant road authority for same-day transport conditions.

Common questions

How much is a taxi from Kingston Airport to New Kingston?

Published examples include US$80 one way for 1 to 4 persons with Jamaica Getaway Travels, from US$110 per ride with Aurum Transfers, from US$45 with E&J Rentals and J$3,000 one way with Travelr Taxi & Tours. Ask the taxi desk or operator for the total fare to your exact hotel, including the currency, vehicle unit, waiting terms and any airport charges.

Is there a bus from Kingston Airport to New Kingston?

Yes. JUTC Route 98 runs from Norman Manley International Airport toward City through Harbour View and Port Royal Road. You may need an onward taxi, bus or walk from City to your hotel. Knutsford Connect separately lists scheduled NMIA to New Kingston departures at US$10 or J$1,300 as of October 2026.

Is it better to get an Uber or a taxi from Kingston Airport?

Uber may suit you when you want an app estimate and a vehicle category shown before requesting the ride. A taxi or private transfer may suit you when you want a direct hotel arrangement, a fixed quote, luggage help or a planned meeting point. Compare both for the same passengers, bags and address.

Is it cheaper to book airport transfers in advance?

Not automatically. A scheduled shared connection, a private vehicle and an airport taxi are different services, so compare the full price, passenger unit, luggage terms, waiting policy and inclusions for your date.

How do I order a taxi in Kingston?

At the airport, use the customer-service facilities to ask about current taxi arrangements. You can also contact a transport operator directly, ask your hotel to arrange a vehicle or use Uber where service is available. Before leaving, settle the hotel address, total price, currency, payment method and luggage terms.

Once you are settled, here is where to eat in New Kingston and Half Way Tree. New Kingston is in St. Andrew, so for transport operators near your hotel, see the St. Andrew transport operators page.
