Falmouth Cruise Port, Jamaica: Taxis, Tours and Getting Around

A Georgian-style town square with old stone buildings under a bright tropical sky

From the Historic Falmouth Cruise Port, you can stay inside the Artisan Village, walk through the port gate into Falmouth, arrange a trolley ride, or hire transport for Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Martha Brae, Good Hope or Dunn’s River Falls. Falmouth town is a short walk from the port, Montego Bay is about 30 minutes by road, and Ocho Rios and Dunn’s River Falls take roughly 45 to 90 minutes each way depending on traffic and stops. As of 15 October 2026, published private tour prices include US$80 to US$150 round trip for 1 to 4 persons on selected Joe Cool itineraries, with attraction entry fees excluded.

Your return plan matters before you choose a distant attraction. Set the pickup point, total price, vehicle size, waiting time and return time around the ship’s all-aboard time.

Start at the port information booth

The Historic Falmouth Cruise Port is a Port Authority of Jamaica cruise facility with an Artisan Village and access to Falmouth’s historic town. The Jamaica Tourist Board describes an information booth, a dispatch area for booked tours and representatives offering tours. A Falmouth trolley tour is advertised at about 40 to 45 minutes.

The cruise port sits beside the historic town, so start by deciding how far you want to go.

Ask port staff to direct you to the taxi or tour dispatch point operating that day. Choose a public passenger vehicle that carries the Transport Authority markings. The Transport Authority says legal taxis have red PPV plates, a taxi globe, a current Transport Authority sticker, an identification card inside the vehicle and a driver wearing a Transport Authority badge.

Tourism-related service providers also require a Jamaica Tourist Board licence through TPDCo. If you arrange an independent tour, ask where the vehicle will meet you and how you will identify the driver.

The port information booth can also help you decide between staying in the port village, walking into Falmouth or arranging a vehicle for a longer outing. The port village has shops, food outlets and visitor services, while the town outside the gate has historic buildings, markets, churches and local businesses.

Walk into Falmouth or stay near the ship

Falmouth is walkable from the cruise port. The port sits beside the town, and the walk outside the gated port area is short, although passenger flow and the port exit can affect the time.

Falmouth is known for its heritage buildings and Georgian townscape. Places to see around town include Water Square, the Falmouth Courthouse, St. Peter’s Anglican Church, the Baptist Manse, the Albert George Market, local food vendors and shops.

The Jamaica Tourist Board recommends walking tours and trolley rides. You can ask at the port information booth about the trolley tour, advertised at 40 to 45 minutes. This option gives you a set local activity without committing to a long road trip. If you want a meal while you are in town, here is where to eat near Falmouth Cruise Port.

If you walk outside the port, keep time for the return through the port entrance and the ship’s required security process. A short town visit still needs a return plan that leaves room before all aboard.

Published transport prices from Falmouth

Private taxis, shared transfers, route taxis and tour vehicles are different services. Compare the price basis before you pay.

Private taxis, shared transfers, route taxis and tour vehicles are priced in different ways.

As of 15 October 2026, Joe Cool Taxi and Tours lists these Falmouth Cruise Terminal rates on its cruise-tour page:

Service Published price Price basis and inclusions
Dunn’s River Falls and Ocho Rios Highlight Tour US$150 Round trip for 1 to 4 persons, transportation only, entry fees excluded
Martha Brae or White River rafting tour US$80 Round trip for 1 to 4 persons, transportation only, entry fees excluded
YS Falls tour US$150 Round trip for 1 to 4 persons, transportation only, entry fees excluded
Good Hope Estate and other listed tour transportation US$100 to US$230 examples Round trip for 1 to 4 persons, rate varies by itinerary, entry fees excluded where stated

These are private tour transportation prices from one operator. They are not route-taxi fares and they do not set the price for every taxi or transfer from the port.

As of 15 October 2026, Jaital Falmouth Transport advertises service from Falmouth to Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Rose Hall and return from US$20. Before using that figure, ask the operator to state whether it is per person or per vehicle, one way or return, and what the price includes.

The Transport Authority publishes regulated route-taxi fare tables in Jamaican dollars per passenger for specific stages. Those figures apply to route-taxi services, not a private port taxi, waiting vehicle, tour or return transfer.

For a private booking, request a message with the route, direction, currency, passenger count, vehicle basis, waiting time, planned stops, luggage arrangements and attraction fees.

Road times from the port

The following are road estimates, not ship timetables:

Tap a row to highlight it, or a column heading to sort.

Destination or activity Estimated time
Falmouth town centre Short walk from the port gate
Martha Brae Rafter’s Village Less than 15 minutes by road
Chukka Good Hope Estate and Falls About 20 minutes by road
Montego Bay About 30 minutes by road
Ocho Rios About 45 to 90 minutes by road
Dunn’s River Falls Roughly 75 to 90 minutes each way
Martha Brae rafting About 1.5 hours on the river

Traffic, stops, loading time and the exact destination can extend the road estimates. Dunn’s River Falls is a long round trip for a cruise call, so set the return departure with a substantial buffer before all aboard.

Martha Brae Rafter’s Village is close enough for a shorter outing, while Good Hope Estate and Falls is about 20 minutes by road. The rafting activity itself takes about 1.5 hours, before allowing for transport, check-in and the return to the port. For food after the river, see where to eat near Martha Brae rafting.

Falmouth to Montego Bay

You can arrange a private taxi or tour vehicle from the Historic Falmouth Cruise Port to Montego Bay. Set the destination, price, currency, direction, passenger basis, stops, waiting time and return plan before leaving the port. If your ship calls at Montego Bay instead, see Montego Bay cruise port taxis and transport from the terminal.

A shared transfer or shuttle may operate on the day. Ask if the fare is per passenger and if the return is included. A route taxi or public transport from Falmouth town is a separate service from a private cruise-port vehicle. Route taxis use regulated stages and passenger fares, while a private vehicle can be priced for the whole group.

The Jamaica Tourist Board’s 2021 destination guide gives about 30 minutes between Falmouth and Montego Bay. Allow additional time for traffic and the port return process. If you are staying in Montego Bay after the cruise call, Montego Bay parish transport operators can help with onward arrangements.

For local connections after reaching the city, see Getting Around Montego Bay, Jamaica: Taxis, Buses and Route Taxis. If the trip involves an airport pickup or hotel transfer, Airport Transfer or Taxi in Jamaica: Which One Fits Your Trip explains the difference between those services.

Falmouth to Ocho Rios and Dunn’s River Falls

The Jamaica Tourist Board’s 2021 guide gives about 45 minutes from Falmouth to Ocho Rios, while current port estimates for Dunn’s River Falls run to 75 to 90 minutes each way, so plan a cruise-day outing around the longer figure. A private vehicle may suit a group that wants a return trip, planned waiting time or several stops. If your ship calls at Ocho Rios instead, see Ocho Rios cruise port taxis and getting around from the pier.

Dunn's River Falls is a long round trip from Falmouth during a ship call.

Dunn’s River Falls is roughly 75 to 90 minutes each way from Falmouth in a current port travel estimate. That leaves less time for other activities during a ship call. Joe Cool publishes a Dunn’s River Falls and Ocho Rios Highlight Tour at US$150 round trip for 1 to 4 persons, transportation only, with entry fees excluded.

Martha Brae or White River rafting is listed by Joe Cool at US$80 round trip for 1 to 4 persons, transportation only, with entry fees excluded. Joe Cool also lists YS Falls at US$150 round trip for 1 to 4 persons under the same transportation-only basis.

For local options in the destination parish, see St. Ann parish transport operators. You can also read Getting Around Ocho Rios, Jamaica: Taxis, Route Taxis and Walking before choosing how much time to spend outside the port.

Families, groups and mobility needs

Tell the operator the children’s ages and request the exact seat type required. Reggae Tours says child seats are available free of charge subject to availability and asks customers to include the child’s age. Falmouth Taxi and Tours says a child safety seat can be requested.

Another Jamaica tour operator advertises infant, child and booster seats at US$5 per seat. That is an operator-specific price, so ask for the child-seat price attached to your booking.

For a group, ask for the exact vehicle model or class, legal passenger capacity, luggage capacity, air conditioning and whether the quoted amount covers the entire group. Joe Cool’s published cruise-tour examples are for 1 to 4 persons.

Describe mobility needs before payment:

  • Whether the wheelchair is manual or powered.
  • Whether it folds.
  • The scooter dimensions and weight.
  • Whether the passenger can transfer from the chair.
  • Whether the chair must remain occupied during travel.
  • How many steps are acceptable.
  • Whether a ramp or hydraulic lift is required.
  • How much room is needed for companions and luggage.

Jamaica Wheelchair Taxi advertises air-conditioned vans and buses with hydraulic lifts. It says some vehicles can carry one wheelchair passenger and up to six other passengers, subject to the specific booking. Ask which vehicle is assigned to the cruise-port trip.

Settle these details before paying

Put the arrangement in writing or in a message. Include:

  • Ship name, port date, arrival time, departure time and all-aboard time.
  • Passenger count and children’s ages.
  • Luggage, strollers and mobility equipment.
  • Exact destination, hotel, attraction entrance or address.
  • Total price and currency.
  • Whether the price is per vehicle, per person, one way, return, hourly or for a fixed tour.
  • Vehicle and luggage capacity.
  • Whether waiting time is included.
  • What happens if the ship disembarks late or the group is delayed.
  • All planned stops and the cost of extra stops.
  • Child-seat availability and price.
  • Wheelchair access, lift type, transfer requirements and storage space.
  • Meeting point inside or outside the port.
  • Driver identification and contact number.
  • Payment method, deposit and cancellation terms.
  • Whether attraction fees, meals, tolls, parking and gratuity are included.

One line from the operator can prevent several misunderstandings: ask for the total price in the quoted currency and the exact return arrangement for the whole group.

Hurricane Melissa and current port conditions

As of 15 October 2026, the latest government updates describe Jamaica’s airports and cruise ports as operational. Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay closed during Hurricane Melissa, and MBJ Airports Limited announced limited commercial operations from 1 November 2025. Jamaica Information Service reported that Falmouth reopened on 3 November 2025, and a May 2026 update said Jamaica’s airports and cruise ports had been fully reactivated while most attractions and critical tourism infrastructure had resumed operation.

The National Works Agency reported on 31 October 2025 that roads had suffered landslides, fallen trees, flooding and surface damage. Conditions can differ by road and attraction, so confirm the specific attraction, road conditions, operator availability and ship port call shortly before travel.

Common questions

How do you get from Falmouth to Montego Bay?

Arrange a private taxi, tour vehicle or shared transfer from the port, or use public transport from Falmouth town. Montego Bay is about 30 minutes by road in the Jamaica Tourist Board’s 2021 destination guide, but traffic and the port return process can add time.

Is Falmouth walkable from the cruise port?

Yes. The port is beside Falmouth’s historic centre, with Water Square, Georgian buildings, churches, the courthouse, markets, food vendors and shops within a short walk outside the port gate. Allow time for the port exit and security process when returning to the ship.

What can you do in Falmouth without an excursion?

You can stay in the Artisan Village, walk to Water Square, view historic buildings, visit local shops and food businesses, or ask at the information booth about a 40 to 45-minute trolley tour. Martha Brae and Good Hope require transport beyond town.

Does Jamaica use Uber or Lyft?

Uber’s Jamaica page lists Kingston and Ocho Rios, as well as Norman Manley International Airport and Sangster International Airport. For Falmouth, ask the port information booth which pickups operate before you rely on an app, and do not assume Lyft operates at the port. For app coverage and licensing information, read Is There Uber in Jamaica? Taxi Apps and How to Get a Ride.

Are taxis in Jamaica expensive?

The price depends on the service, route, passenger count, direction, waiting time, stops and vehicle size. Route-taxi fares are regulated in Jamaican dollars per passenger for stated stages, while Joe Cool’s private cruise-tour examples, as of 15 October 2026, range from US$80 to US$150 round trip for 1 to 4 persons, with entry fees excluded.
