Domestic Flights in Jamaica: Flying Between Kingston, Montego Bay and Negril

An aerial view of the Jamaican coast with a small airstrip beside the sea

You can fly within Jamaica on selected routes, but availability depends on the date, operator and airport pair. AirLink Express publishes scheduled flights from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay to Negril Aerodrome, with the airborne time described in historical material as about 12 minutes. Domestic charter flights can also connect Kingston, Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios and other locations, while current fares must be requested for your exact date. A domestic flight is separate from the road transfer to your hotel, so price both parts before paying.

Which domestic flights operate in Jamaica?

The Jamaica Tourist Board names AirLink Express and TimAir as domestic operators. MBJ Airports Limited lists Airlink and TimAir for connections from Sangster International Airport to Jamaica’s domestic aerodromes and other local aviation points.

AirLink Express and TimAir are named as Jamaica's domestic operators.

AirLink Express publishes scheduled Montego Bay to Negril service and also advertises domestic charter flights to destinations across Jamaica. TimAir is presented by MBJ Airports Limited and the Jamaica Tourist Board as a domestic charter operator based at Sangster International Airport.

A July 2025 Jamaica Observer report said LIAT 2020 planned to resume scheduled domestic service between Montego Bay and Kingston. Because that service was described as planned, treat any Kingston to Montego Bay flight as date-specific. Ask the airline for the actual operator, route, flight number if one exists, departure time and airport pair before relying on it.

Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority rules distinguish between scheduled services and non-scheduled charters. Scheduled flights require the relevant licence, while non-scheduled charter flights require permits. If you are arranging a charter, ask the operator for its licence or permit status where relevant and keep the written quote with your booking records.

Which airports and aerodromes are used?

The town name is not enough when you are comparing prices or arranging a road pickup. Put the full departure and arrival airport in writing.

MBJ Airports Limited says passengers arriving at Sangster International Airport can connect by air to Tinson Pen, Ken Jones, Boscobel or Ian Fleming, and Negril. The Airports Authority of Jamaica identifies Tinson Pen, Ken Jones and Negril as domestic aerodromes. Ian Fleming International Airport is listed as an international airport serving general aviation and other flights.

Negril Aerodrome is listed as VFR-only, meaning flights depend on visual flight conditions. The Airports Authority publishes operating hours of 1200 to 2300 UTC for Negril. Ask the operator whether the aerodrome is suitable for your planned departure and arrival time, particularly if your hotel transfer depends on landing at a specific hour.

A flight to Negril Aerodrome is not the same as flying to Sangster International Airport and continuing by road. Negril Aerodrome may put you closer to your hotel, while Sangster gives you access to road transfers from Montego Bay and the north coast. Write the destination airport into the quote and arrange the final transfer to the exact hotel, villa or street address.

Montego Bay to Negril by air

AirLink Express advertises scheduled Montego Bay to Negril flights from Sangster International Airport to Negril Aerodrome. Historical AirLink promotional material described the airborne time as approximately 12 minutes, but your total travel time also includes check-in, boarding, baggage handling and the transfer from Negril Aerodrome.

The Montego Bay to Negril flight is short, but the trip includes check-in and transfers.

AirLink’s booking system requires you to choose the route and date. Availability and takeoff times can change, so request the total current fare for your date before paying. Ask if the quote is per passenger or for the aircraft, one way or return, and whether it is a shared scheduled service or a private charter.

MBJ’s aeronautical charges effective January 1, 2026 list a US$6.03 passenger service charge and a US$2.65 security charge for a passenger embarking on a domestic flight at Sangster. These are airport charges, not the complete fare from Montego Bay to Negril. Ask if they are included in the operator’s quote or collected separately.

After landing at Negril Aerodrome, you need a separate vehicle to reach your accommodation. Give the driver or transport desk the full address and ask for the total fare, vehicle size, luggage space and expected waiting arrangement. Montego Bay to Kingston by air

A domestic flight from Montego Bay to Kingston may use Sangster International Airport to Tinson Pen Aerodrome, or it may involve a different airport pair. Norman Manley International Airport is the main international airport in Kingston, while Tinson Pen is the Kingston domestic aerodrome identified in the airport information.

Historical route listings described approximately 35 minutes between Sangster and Tinson Pen. A Sangster to Norman Manley route was listed at approximately 50 minutes. These are indicative estimates rather than current airline timetable figures. Ask the operator for the expected airborne time, any connection or intermediate stop, and the aircraft being used.

AirLink advertises domestic charter flights, and its booking system includes Kingston and Montego Bay as selectable destinations. The availability of a scheduled flight depends on your date. The July 2025 report about LIAT 2020 referred to planned scheduled service.

If you are connecting from an international arrival, include your incoming airline and flight number in the booking request. Ask how long the operator will wait if the international flight is late, what happens if the connection is missed, and whether the price changes when a private charter is required.

The road transfer after landing is separate. From Tinson Pen or Norman Manley International Airport, arrange transport to your exact destination in Kingston, St. Andrew or another parish. If you land at Norman Manley, here is where to eat near Kingston's airport. You can compare local arrangements through transport operators in Kingston and the guide to getting around Kingston.

Can a charter replace a scheduled flight?

A charter may suit a group, an unusual route or a date when scheduled seats are not available. AirLink publishes domestic charter flights to destinations across Jamaica, while TimAir is presented as a domestic charter operator based at Sangster International Airport.

A charter can land closer to your destination, but a hotel transfer is separate.

A charter quote needs more detail than a simple ticket price. Ask for the aircraft capacity, passenger limit, luggage capacity and whether the price is per person or per aircraft. Also ask if the quote is one way, return or an open charter, and whether the aircraft waits while you attend to business or continue by road.

If your group includes children, state every child’s age. If anyone uses a wheelchair, walking frame, crutches or another mobility aid, give the equipment type, dimensions and weight. The aircraft that can carry the passengers may have different luggage limits once the cabin is full.

A charter can take you to an airport or aerodrome closer to your final destination, but it does not automatically include a hotel transfer. Put the landing point and the road vehicle into the same written plan, with the exact address and the number of bags.

Booking, timing and baggage

AirLink accepts reservations through its website booking pages and lists these contacts:

The AirLink booking form asks for the route, trip type, departure and return dates, arrival or departure airline and flight number, and international flight details where relevant. AirLink says scheduled-flight check-in is 20 minutes before departure and scheduled flights close 10 minutes before departure.

Build those deadlines into your airport plan. If you are arriving internationally at Sangster, allow time for immigration, baggage collection and the walk to the domestic meeting point. Ask the operator where to meet, whether you need to collect and re-check bags, and how a late international arrival affects the booking.

AirLink says its Jamaican domestic aircraft have no overhead baggage compartments. The airline will try to accommodate baggage, but a bag that cannot be carried may travel on the next available flight or by road when prior arrangements are made for charter flights. Baggage size and aircraft capacity can affect acceptance.

Before payment, provide the number of bags, the weight of each bag, the dimensions and details of unusual items. Ask TimAir for its current baggage allowance, aircraft size, excess-bag fee and arrangements for oversized luggage. The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority says airlines must inform passengers of the size, number and weight limits for checked and carry-on baggage.

AirLink lists prohibited dangerous goods and says firearms or ammunition require advance contact. Do not place unusual or restricted items into the booking without telling the operator.

Families, groups and mobility needs

Give the airline the children’s ages and ask about seating, infant travel, child restraints and the road transfer after landing. AirLink states that infants under 23 months must travel with a parent or guardian. Children aged 2 to 5 years and 11 months must fly under adult supervision, while unaccompanied minors aged 6 or older may travel under its stated conditions.

Give the operator your bag count and weights before payment.

AirLink also says that a parent travelling alone with twins or two infants must bring a car seat for one child. Request a child seat for the road transfer separately from the vehicle provider and get the arrangement in writing.

For a group, ask which aircraft will operate, the maximum passenger count and whether everyone can travel on the same departure. Ask how luggage capacity changes when the cabin is full and if a private charter is available. AirLink says its booking system may add other passengers to available seats, except for a two-ticket private option that it describes as available only for Montego Bay to Negril.

AirLink says wheelchairs, sticks, crutches, walking frames and other mobility aids are carried free of charge and outside the normal baggage allowance. Its information says a wheelchair is available at Sangster, while destination facilities may differ. Request assistance in advance. AirLink’s published policy says passengers requiring wheelchair assistance should contact the airline no later than 72 hours before departure.

Give the operator the mobility aid’s type, dimensions, weight and battery details where relevant. Ask whether assistance is available at both airports, whether stairs are required for boarding, whether the aircraft can accept the equipment, and how you will reach the vehicle after landing. Ask the destination transport provider whether the vehicle can carry the passenger, mobility aid and luggage together.

What to settle before paying

Keep one written message or document with the full arrangement. It should include:

  • operator name and licence or permit status where relevant;
  • flight number, if one exists;
  • departure and arrival airports;
  • travel date and local departure time;
  • passenger count and passenger ages;
  • luggage count, weight, dimensions and unusual items;
  • child-seat needs for the road transfer;
  • exact hotel, villa or street address;
  • price per person or per aircraft;
  • one way, return or open charter status;
  • currency;
  • taxes, airport fees, security charges and other surcharges;
  • waiting time if an international flight is late;
  • airport meeting point;
  • check-in deadline;
  • payment method and cancellation terms;
  • transfer arrangement from the destination aerodrome.

AirLink accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and cash. TimAir’s payment, cancellation, delay-waiting and baggage terms should be requested as part of its written quote. Confirm with the operator before you travel that the airports, times, baggage and transfer address still match your booking.

Airport and road status after Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa caused airport closures and road damage in October 2025. Sangster International Airport closed on October 26, 2025, and MBJ announced preparations for limited commercial operations from November 1. The Office of the Prime Minister later reported that airports reopened within 48 hours, with relief flights beginning October 29 and commercial passenger services resuming October 30.

A December 2025 government update said commercial flights at Sangster resumed November 1, while Norman Manley International Airport, Ian Fleming International Airport and the domestic aerodromes fully resumed operations by October 30. The Airports Authority’s October 25 update listed Norman Manley, Sangster, Ian Fleming, Tinson Pen, Negril and Ken Jones as open at that time, subject to further assessment.

Road access also changed after the storm. The National Works Agency reported on October 31 that 195 road corridors had been reported impassable, with 93 reopened or cleared. Critical corridors linking Kingston, Black River, Savanna-la-Mar and Montego Bay had reopened to at least single-lane or full access. Its December 15 road-status table recorded 400 of 403 affected corridors with two lanes open, no affected corridor with single-lane status and three still blocked.

For a trip now, ask the operator about the flight status and airport operation for your date, then ask the road provider about access to your final address. A reopened airport does not remove the need to plan the last transfer separately.
