Airports and ports near St. Thomas

Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston is the nearest major airport to Morant Bay. The road distance is about 47 km, although route estimates vary to about 52 km, so allow extra time for traffic and road conditions. Tinson Pen Aerodrome is another Kingston-area facility, while Ian Fleming International Airport near Boscobel is farther away. Rome2Rio estimates the Norman Manley Airport to Morant Bay distance.

Bath Airfield, also called Hector’s River Airstrip, is associated with Bath, but confirm current passenger service before relying on it. For cruise facilities, see the Port Authority of Jamaica. Airport transfers and local road transport are the practical choices for most visitors.

Buses, coaches and route taxis

JUTC route 701 runs from Yallahs Bay to Kingston, while route 702 runs from Morant Bay to Kingston. Morant Bay stops include Wharf Road outside Colonel Cove and the Morant Bay Bus Park on Church Street. The route 702 timetable covers April 15 to June 30, 2026. Route taxis and rural stage-carriage buses use fixed routes and carry several passengers along the way. Morant Bay Bus Park, on Church Street, is a key interchange, and Yallahs Square serves as a western pickup point. The Transport Authority route list can help you match your destination with the correct service. For a Knutsford Express coach, connect at Kingston, Harbour View or Port Antonio; its locations page shows the current stops.

Main roads

The main coastal road runs through Yallahs, Albion and Morant Bay toward Port Antonio. Southern Coastal Highway works have improved sections between Harbour View and Yallahs, Yallahs and Morant Bay, Morant Bay and Prospect, and Morant Bay and Cedar Valley. The Morant Bay to Cedar Valley road is the main inland connection toward northern districts. Travel times remain dependent on traffic, roadworks and weather. The National Works Agency describes the Southern Coastal Highway connections.

Before you travel

Carry Jamaican cash for local buses and taxis. JUTC accepts cash in Jamaican currency and SmartFare cards, but confirm current fares and payment rules before boarding. Route taxis and local buses may have limited late evening service, so early or late trips to rural districts may suit a private charter taxi, rental car or pre-arranged transfer.

Check the destination, fare and vehicle markings before boarding. Public passenger vehicles commonly display the applicable plate markings, route details and taxi identification.
